Detoa toys are the continuation of over 100-year-old tradition of manufacturing woden toys and beads in the middle of Jizerské hory in DETOA Albrechtice s.r.o.

First products were sold to customers already around the year 1895. But the rapid development came after 1.1.1908. It was when the owner Johann Schowanek built a modern factory, which became soon one of the best and first-rate producer of wooden toys and beads in the world. Around 1920 the company was already exporting its goods under the name "Schowanek" to many countries all around the world.

Since 1945, when the company was renamed to TOFA Albrechtice, the factory has belonged among the most important European producers. Many toys that were made in this factory in the last 100 years have been undoubtably "cult toys", which have been being copied all over the world. World hit-toy from Detoa factory from the thirties of 20th Century is Jo-jo; classic toy invented by Detoa designer is Press Up Figure (First products were put on the market around 1930).

Since the thirties 20th Century very popular board game Domino has been made in Detoa factory. More than hundred thousands of different kinds of abacuses have been manufactured in the factory since 1926. Many generations learnt on them how to count. Among the classic toys from Detoa factory also belongs a register tool table, that has been a model for many other companies. It has been being made since 1975. Another world-famous toy is the assembling tool car. It has been made since 1972. Magnetic theatres have belonged among classic toys since 1960. Detoa offers many kinds of the very popular Czech bedtime-story character - The Little Mole by Zdeněk Miler.

For more than 100 years Detoa has been making popular wooden jewellery for kids and different kinds of wooden beads. The wooden beads used to be a very important part of accessories for women all over the world. Now they are mainly sold in the „hobby“ area and they can develop the creativity and hand skills of our children.

Production technology

Products are made of quality hardwood (maple, beech and hornbeam), that is lumbered mostly in the mountainous regions of the Central Europe. As soon as the logs are cut down, they are delivered to factory's conversion depot. They are protected there against mold and coloring - exclusively by being uninterruptedly sprayed with water. They are chemically neither processed nor treated. The delivered logs are continuously cut into timber of different thickness. The timber is stacked up and naturally dried for 6 to18 months. Being naturally pre-dried, the wood is cut into scantlings and boards of required dimensions. The drying is finished to 7-9% dampness in fully automated drying rooms, which are computer-operated and work on the principle of water-vapor-drying at higher temperatures. Only wood without any evident defects is used for further production.

Factory provides good working conditions and it asks the same from it's suppliers. They are trying to be always fair and correct towards their employees and they offer them safe and healthy working environment.
